Aug. 1-30 - Bed and Breakfast Association of Virginia Fund Drive

The Bed and Breakfast Association of Virginia and its 200+ members have adopted Virginia's food banks as the recipients of an August campaign.  Each participating inn will encourage guests and friends to contribute to the local food bank throughout the month in their own unique way.

 

 

Aug. 30-Sept. 3 - Step By Step - Together We Can Solve Hunger (for the long distance runner)

 

Amos DeJardins, an award-winning long distance runner, will be completing a 500-mile course over 5 days in Virginia to bring attention to hunger in our communities as well as raise funds for Federation food banks.  He will begin and end his course in his hometown of Alexandria, and his course takes him through the mountains of the Blue Ridge, through the cities and towns of central Virginia (including locations within the BRAFB service area) and back up the I-95 corridor.  Throughout his route, he will be joined by supporters, including some government officials, and will visit running stores and events as he helps kick off Hunger Action Month.  You can follow Amos at /500in5VA on Facebook and @RunOnVeggies on Twitter.  As part of his course, Amos will be visiting the various locations within the Blue Ridge Service Area which include:

 

August 31 

  • Mile 101:  Start of Day 2 - Hampton Inn North Convention Center in Winchester, VA at 6:00am
  • Mile 169:  Aid Station - The Quad, James Madison University in Harrisonburg, VA at 5:30pm

September 1 

  • Mile 201:  Start of Day 3 - Hampton Inn Waynesboro/Stuarts Draft in Fishersville, VA at 6:00am
  • Mile 229:  Aid Station @ Ragged Mountain Running Shop in Charlottesville, VA at 10:00am
  • Mile 233:  Run By @ Blue Ridge Area Food Bank's Thomas Jefferson branch in Charlottesville, VA at 10:30am

 

SEPTEMBER

 

SEPT. 4 - Go Orange for Hunger

This Sept. 4, we invite individuals, charities, schools, businesses and government to Go Orange for hunger to raise awareness of this critical issue.  By displaying the color orange at your office, place of worship, home or school, you can draw attention to the 144,480 individuals in the Blue Ridge who face hunger.  Learn more about Go Orange here.

 

SEPT. 10-17 - Extreme Makeover:  Food Bank Edition

Volunteers in the community will give our Charlottesville facility a facelift!  Volunteers will clean, scrape, hammer and paint the site, while our media partners from Monticello Media and the Charlottesville Newsplex will join us for the big reveal.

 

SEPT. 13 - Staunton Mall 4th Annual Car Show

This event features hundreds of hotrods, customs, classics and antiques going back to 1899, plus famous cars from film and television.  Visit the show for food, music and fun and your proceeds will benefit the Food Bank.  Kicks off at 10am at the Staunton Mall.

 

 

SEPT. 19 - Stuff A Truck

Come help us fill our trucks with food for your neighbors in need during this one-day event, 7am to 7pm at one of four grocery stores - Martin's in Harrisonburg, Staunton and Waynesboro, and Giant Foods in Charlottesville.  Meet your favorite personalities from Monticello Media and the Charlottesville Newsplex, and WHSV and Clear Channel Radio of Harrisonburg as we try to reach our goal of 40,000 pounds of food.  You can find our most-needed foods list here.

 

 

 

  

 

SEPT. 26-28

The 4th Annual Misty Mountain Music Festival showcases original bands alongside local businesses and artisans.  This family-friendly camping event offers something for all ages as you sit back and relax to the best folk, bluegrass, country and americana music!  This year, the Festival will not require ticket purchases.  Instead they have partnered with the Blue Ridge Area Food Bank, so admission to the event will be a personal monetary donation at the gates.  Click here for more information.

 

 

  

THROUGH JUNE 2015 - Feeding Virginia

Media Members of the Virginia Association of Broadcasters (VAB) will support their local food banks through PSAs, spreading the word about hunger in their communities, as well as providing easy ways for their audience members to donate directly to the food bank serving their area.  In addition, the VAB will be seeking corporate partners to join in the fight against hunger.  This campaign will run through summer 2015.

 

MONTHLY EVENT

 

Augusta Expo Monthly Market and Yard Sale

 

While hosting this monthly event, Augusta Expo is helping the hungry, too.  The event occurs on the first Saturday of each month.  Admission is $1 or non-perishable food donations for the Food Bank.  For every dollar you give, you will provide four meals to neighbors in need.  For more info, visit www.augustaexpo.com
