The Green Bean Bike Challenge started as a challenge between two friends to see how hard and high they could push themselves riding up the Blue Ridge Mountains. But they wanted to look beyond themselves as well, and challenged their friends and family to donate a case of green beans to their local food pantry for every mile they rode. Well, that little ride has grown organically (pun intended) to an annual challenge among friends to push themselves to suffer, persevere, and provide hope and sustenance to their community.
In its 12 years, it has provided over three quarters of a million meals to their community.
This year’s event is:
Saturday, October 5
Starts and ends at Devils Backbone Basecamp
Over 60 riders are participating, a record number.
