Hunger in the Blue Ridge

Hunger is a quiet crisis in your community.

Hunger may be invisible, but it’s right here in every zip code in the Blue Ridge area. Its effects are on full display, from declining physical and mental health to lagging economic productivity.

But there’s hope. We’re giving a voice to our neighbors and helping them get the nutritious food they need to live full, healthy lives. And we’re doing it together with our donors, volunteers, and network of committed pantry and program partners. Thank you for standing with us.

Together, we set a place at the table for everyone.

According to the latest data (from 2021) on food insecurity in our regionapproximately 1 in 12 people living in the Blue Ridge area experiences hunger, including 1 in 12 children.

Last year, the Food Bank and our network of more than 400 community partners served an average of 127,500 people each month. Yet, there are still more in our region who need food assistance. The table is where solutions to hunger are found, and we’re making sure everyone has a seat. With community partnership, guidance, and support, we are implementing new, innovative ways to reach people facing hunger, regardless of who they are or where they live.

With help from our generous donors and volunteers, we were able to distribute more than 27 million pounds of food last year—the equivalent of almost 23 million meals—including more than 8 million pounds of produce.

Food is so much than just fuel. It’s hope, health, and culture. When you give to the food bank, you help families thrive and elevate entire communities. We are so grateful for your support!

When you give food, you nourish health.
