Albemarle High School students, Emily Warren and Lily Stendig, and Tandem Friends student, Sofia Smith, are leading a group of their peers in organizing the annual School Food Drive, which begins March 6 – March 22.

In previous years, numerous schools have taken part in this yearly initiative, sometimes even competing to see which one can collect the most pounds of food. Local businesses have also shown their support for this effort. The annual event serves to increase food supplies at the Food Bank during spring, when donations typically decrease.

Since the School Food Drive’s inception, participating schools have collected 95,378 pounds of food, providing 79,482 meals for neighbors facing hunger. The impact proves that young people can and do make a difference in their communities.
