The 10 MILLION MEAL CHALLENGE
In 2019, we are joining forces with Feeding America Food Banks in support of our collective efforts to end hunger by 2030 in our communities (USAID 2030 initiative).
THE CHALLENGE
Hunger is a solvable problem in your community. The 10 Million Meal Challenge is a partnership between Rotary Clubs in Rotary Zones 33-34 and the more than 40 regional Feeding America Food banks serving communities in your Club Districts. Feeding America Food Banks also have a bold goal to ensure everyone in your communities has access to the food resources they need by 2025!
THE 2019 GOAL This year, Rotary Clubs in Zones 33-34 will collectively donate the equivalent of 10 million meals to your Feeding America Food Banks through Rotary service projects AND a two week food & fund drive in September during Hunger Action Month! These projects will deepen the understanding about hunger in your community and generate resources to make a lasting, sustainable impact where you live. If you are already working with a local food pantry, the 10 Million Meal Challenge will create an additional connection between your Club and your regional Feeding America Food Bank for deeper engagement.
HOW TO GET STARTED
A Club Toolkit with registration information can be found at www.rizones33-34.org/foodbank. Sign up through that page and you will be connected to your regional Feeding America Food Bank to start planning on how to make a long-lasting impact to end hunger in your community.
HOW TO TAKE ACTION Collaborate with your Feeding America Food Bank to identify activities that align with Rotary’s Five Avenues of Service and monthly themes. Service project suggestions include but are not limited to:
● Volunteer hours to sort and pack donated food or fresh produce
● Education programs aligned with monthly Rotary themes
● New sustainable partnerships to bring more food resources to undeserved areas
● Participate in the Rotary Club fundraiser from September 16-27, 2019 benefiting your Feeding America Food Bank during Feeding America’s Hunger Action Month
MEASURING YOUR IMPACT
● 1 volunteer or education hour = 10 meal points (this will be tracked by clubs using the keyword “10million” in Rotary Club Central)
● September 16 – 27, 2019 Food & Fund Drive (tracked by the Feeding America food banks)
o $1 dollar donated = 4 meal points
     o 1.2 pounds donated = 1 meal point
RECOGNIZING WINNERS – November 2019 a Club winner will be recognized in each Rotary District and an overall Rotary Club winner will be recognized in each Zone.
