Albemarle High School students, Emily Warren and Lily Stendig, are leading a group of their peers in organizing the annual School Food Drive, which begins March 6 – March 24.

In the past, dozens of schools have participated in this annual drive—even competing to collect the most pounds of food. Businesses have also supported the effort. The annual event boosts food supplies at the Food Bank during the spring when donations traditionally run low.

Since the School Food Drive’s inception, participating schools have collected 73,637 pounds of food, providing 61,119 meals for neighbors facing hunger. The impact proves that young people can and do make a difference in their communities.
